<p>PURPOSE:To provide a coating compsn. for resins, which gives a coating film having excellent corrosion resistance, has good dispersibility in water at a low neutralization value and is suitable for use in cathodic electrodeposition coating, containing a specified epoxy resin derivative having an imidazoline ring functional group as a resin binder. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy resin derivative having an imidazoline ring functional group of formula I (wherein R1 is a 2-6C alkylene; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each H or methyl; R<6> is a carboxylic acid) is incorporated as a resin binder to obtain the desired coating compsn. for resins. The epoxy resin devative having an imidazoline ring functional group of formula I can be obtd. by reacting the 1,2-epoxy group of them epoxy resin with an N- hydroxyalkylimidazoline of formula II, which can be obtd. e.g., by reacting an N-(beta-aminoalkyl)alkanolamine of formula III with a carboxylic acid.</p> |
