PURPOSE:To increase locally the strength of a hot forged steel crankshaft and to improve the machinability of the whole crankshaft by heating the fillet part of the crankshaft to a prescribed temp. by high frequency heating and by cooling the heated fillet part at a prescribed cooling rate. CONSTITUTION:A hot forged steel crankshaft 1 is allowed to cool. The fillet part 4 of the crankshaft 1 requiring increased strength is heated to the A3 transformation point or above by high frequency heating with a coil 6. The heated fillet part 4 is cooled at <=75 deg.C/sec cooling rate.
