PURPOSE:To prevent esp. the sediment portion of a distillation column, heat exchanger or the like from being blocked, by conducting distillation of deacidified naphthalene oil using facilities equipped with a particular sedimentation separation tank for the removal of sludge formed. CONSTITUTION:A sedimentation separation tank with an area load of 10m/hr or less for the removal of sludge formed upon heating is attached to the naphthalene distillation facilities for effecting distillation of deacidified naphthalene oil by heating. The most suitable method for the removal of stuck and sedimented sludge is a stationary separation method in which resistance (pressure loss) is small in transferring the treated oil. In a preferred stationary separation method, a sedimentation separation tank with a sealed area load of 10m/hr or less is installed in a line of post-treatment oil heated at 150-200 deg.C. It is preferred that the structure of the sedimentation separation tank 12 be such that the bottom portion thereof has a slant so as to facilitate the taking out of sedimented separated sludge during operation. The above area load is represented by the treated flow rate (m<3>/hr)/sedimentation area (m<2>).
