PURPOSE:To obtain sedoheptulose useful as a synthetic raw material for saccharide contained in antibiotics efficiently, by cultivating a specific strain belonging to the genus Bacillus in a medium containing a substance to form D-ribose 5-phosphate. CONSTITUTION:Bacillus subtilis which is deficient in transketolase and capable of producing sedoheptulose is cultivated in a medium containing 5%(W/V) D- ribose for forming D-ribose 5-phosphate, as a substrate and, if necessary, 10%(W/V) hexose such as maltose or 10-20%(W/V) hexose in the case of using it as a substrate and carbon source, a carbon source such as molasses, a nitrogen source such as peptone, etc., an inorganic substance such as MgSO4, etc., >=25mug/ml L-tyrosine, >=25mug/ml L-tryptophan and >=25mug/mg L- phenylalanine as a growing agent at 20-45 deg.C at pH5-9 for 3-5 day aerobically. Then sedoheptulose formed in the culture solution is separated. |
