PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high-purity pyrroloquinolinequinone (PQQ) by a simple operation in a short time in high yield, by cultivating a specific bacterium in a medium having high Mg concentration. CONSTITUTION:Pseudomonas A1-2(FERM P-7599), etc., growing in methanol as a carbon source, belonging to a genus capable of assimilating methanol, capable of producing PQQ, is cultivated at 0-40 deg.C at pH2-9 for 20-100hr aerobically by aerated culture, etc., in a medium containing 1-50ml/l methanol as a carbon source, an amino acid as a nitrogen source, etc., >=40mg/l (calculated as Mg metal) MgSO4 as an Mg source and in a range not to cause MgHPO4 precipitate with phosphoric acid of the medium component and distilled water as water. PQQ formed in the culture solution is separated by ion exchange chromatography, etc.
