PURPOSE:To obtain a wear-resistant composite sintered material capable of withstanding severe friction conditions, by specifying a composition consisting of carbide, nitrides, or oxides and of graphite and Fe. CONSTITUTION:The wear-resistant composite sintered material has a composition consisting of, by weight, 5-25% of one or more kinds among carbides, nitrides, and oxides, 2-15% graphite, and the balance Fe and is excellent in wear resistance and strength. As the above carbides, SiC, WC, VC, MoC, etc., are used, and particularly, SiC is preferred. Moreover, SiN, AlN, BN, etc., are used as the nitrides, and Al2O3, etc., are used as the oxides. These are all hard and therefore effective for wear resistance. Further, graphite functions as solid lubricant. Above-mentioned sintered material can be obtained by blending each powdery raw material having the above prescribed composition, by mixing the above with the addition of about 1% of zinc stearate, by compacting the mixture, and by subjecting the resulting green compact to temporary sintering, to recompacting, and then to sintering in an Ar gas at about 1,000 deg.C. Moreover, strength and wear resistance can be improved to a greater extent by subjecting the above composite material to temper heat treatment after sintering.
