1281415 Composition containing ethoxylated fatty acid amide sulphates FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 18 Dec 1969 [19 Dec 1968] 61738/69 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] A novel composition comprises from 10 to 70% by weight of a compound of the general formula wherein R is a C 8 -C 18 aliphatic radical, M is a cation, and x is an integer from 1 to 8, and from 90 to 30% by weight of a compound of the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> has the same meaning as R, and y is an integer from 2 to 8 and is prepared by reacting a mixture of a compound of the general formula and a compound of the formula with sulphur trioxide and subsequently neutralizing the mixture. Suitably R and R<SP>1</SP> each represent an alkyl, alkenyl or fat radical and M represents an alkali metal, e.g. sodium or potassium, or an ethoxylated ammonium derivative, e.g. triethanolammonium. The preparation is preferably carried out continuously at a temperature of from 20‹ to 100‹ C. using the SO 3 in admixture with an inert gas. The novel composition may be used as a detergent.
