PURPOSE:To obtain much freedom of layout of branch pipes by forming the branch pipe of a muffler into a stepped form such that a pipe of a smaller diameter is branched out firstly from an air passage pipe and a pipe of a larger diameter is secondly connected therewith. CONSTITUTION:In providing a branch pipe 2 to an air passage 1 of a side branch type muffler, the branch pipe 2 is formed into a stepped form such that a pipe of a smaller diameter is branched out firstly from an air passage 1 and a pipe of a larger diameter is secondly connected therewith. This constitution can obtain much freedom of layout in arranging branch pipes for keeping out of peripheral equipments.
