PURPOSE:To enhance the life of rollers in an automatic pay-out device for a refining process for shape steel or the like, by determining the position of pay-out stopping before starting a transfer hook to monitor the travel distance of the transfer hook to allow the transfer hook to stop the thus determined position. CONSTITUTION:A transfer control device 9' is composed of a stop position determining circuit and a circuit for delivering a speed reference value in accordance with the positional lFBK of a transfer hook. The control device 9' determines a stopping position in accordance with the distance from a detector 8 to the dividing point of a conveying table roller 2 which is delivered. When the transfer hook 3 is started, a counter 11 counts pulse signals from a pulse generator 10 for obtaining the travel distance lFBK of the transfer hook 3 which is then delivered to the control device 9' for controlling a speed control device 7 so that the distance lS gives a stopping position. With this arrangement, the stopping position is changed for each delivery to reduce local abrasion of the rollers.
