PURPOSE:To improve the frequency characteristics of the titled medium in the region of long recording wavelength without deteriorating the frequency characteristics in the region of short recording wavelength by specifying the relative coercive force and residual magnetic flux density of a deep layer part close to a base material and a surface layer part. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording layer 2 consisting of the deep layer part 2c close to the base material 1, the succeeding intermediate part 2b, and the surface layer part 2a having a recording surface is formed on the base material 1. Meanwhile, the coercive force of the deep layer part 2c hardly affecting the characteristics in the region of short recording wavelength is made lower than that of the surface layer part 2a. Moreover, the residual magnet flux density of the layer 2c is made higher than that of the layer 2a in the region of long recording wavelength, and hence even the layer 2c distant from a magnetic head and receiving a weak magnetic field is sufficiently magnetized. Accordingly, the frequency characteristics in the region of long recording wavelength are improved without deteriorating the frequency characteristics in the region of short recording wavelength.
