PURPOSE:To effectively utilize the high saturation magnetic flux density by providing a track controlling groove so that the edge part of a ferromagnetic metallic thin film is notched, and retreating a magnetic core part consisting of a ferromagnetic oxide from a magnetic gap forming surface. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic core halves I and II are composed of the magnetic core part consisting of a ferromagnetic oxide and ferromagnetic metallic thin films 13A and 13B formed on the ferromagnetic thin film forming surface of the core part by a vacuum thin film forming technique. The ferromagnetic metallic thin films 13A and 13B are abutted on each other to form a magnetic gap, the ferromagnetic thin film forming surface and a magnetic gap forming surface are inclined to a specified angle on a magnetic recording medium facing surface, and the abutted ferromagnetic metallic thin films 13A and 13B are almost in a straight line. The track width controlling grooves 11b and 12b are provided so that the edge parts of the ferromagnetic metallic thin films 13A and 13B are notched, and the magnetic core pars 11 and 12 consisting of a ferromagnetic oxide are retreated from the magnetic gap forming surface 10.
