PURPOSE:To produce easily and completely a magnetic recording medium having high driving performance, high durability, etc., by applying simultaneously the calender processes of both a magnetic layer and a back layer and setting surface roughness of both layers at a prescribed level by curing the coated films with irradiation of radiant rays. CONSTITUTION:The calender processes are applied simultaneously to a magnetic layer containing the magnetic powder and a binder cured with irradiation of radiant rays formed on a primary side of a nonmagnetic supporter and to a back coat layer containing a nonmagnetic filler and an agent cured with irradia tion of radiant rays formed on the other primary side of the nonmagnetic sup porter. At the same time, these two layers are cured instantaneously with irradia tion of radiant rays. Thus it is possible to obtain easily nd completely a mag netic recording medium which has high driving performance and durability in according with the smoothness that satisfies R21<R22<R23 among those roughens R21, R22 and R23 of the magnetic layer, the nonmagnetic supporter and the back coat layer respectively.
