PURPOSE:To enable the easy inspection of the extent of a bend and the like on a pipe electrode for electric discharge machining by making an irradiation device on one end of said pipe electrode irradiate for receipt of the predetermined quantity of light by a photo detector on the other end of said electrode, and making a discrimination device discriminate a signal in proportion to the received quantity of light. CONSTITUTION:A pipe electrode 1 is fixed and supported with a support device and an irradiation device 2 provided on one end thereof and comprising a light- emitting device such as a lamp, LED and laser is used to irradiate the predetermined quantity of light, which is received by a photo detector 3 fitted to the other end of the support device and comprising a light-receiving device such as a photo transistor and a photo cell. And a standard level is regulated by the irradiated light quantity from the irradiation device 2 and the signal of the photo detector 3 is discriminated by a comparator 4 using a Schmidt circuit and a circuit for a differential amplifier and the like, thereby displaying a discrimination output through an indication device 5. Therefore, the extent of the bend of the pipe electrode 1 can be easily discriminated.
