PURPOSE:To decrease a number of control axes while to improve productivity, by performing a numerical control (NC) of tools on the first and second tool rests while cutting simultaneously by the tools on the both tool rests. CONSTITUTION:The first tool rest 40 moves in an X1-axis direction being the direction approaching toward and separating from the center line of a main spindle. The second tool rest 52 moves in an X2-axis direction, being the direction approaching toward and separating from the center line of the main spindle, and a Y-axis direction being the direction crossing at a right angle with the X2-axis direction. Accordingly, while a tool on the tool rest 40 performs cutting, a tool on the tool rest 52, being selected approaching a work, can be placed in a standby condition, or the tools on the both tool rests can simultaneously perform cutting. Since the both tool rests are controlled only by a control of the three axes of X1, X2 and Y, a small number of control axes are only required.
