PURPOSE:To realize a color liquid crystal display having high color reproducibility of high brightness and purity of color by combining a liquid crystal element with a color filter both having almost equal transmittance in the wavelength region corresponding to red, green, and blue, or a liquid crystal element with a color filter both having peaks of transmittance in the wavelength region corresponding to red, green, and blue. CONSTITUTION:A color liquid crystal display having high color reproducibility of high brightness and high color purity is realized by combining a liquid crystal optical shutter and color filter both having peaks of transmittance in the wavelength region corresponding to R, G, B. Thus, primary colors having sharp peak characteristics even after transmitting the color filter and having high color purity are viewed visually even if a light source generating flat spectrum is used. By this method, reproduction of color of high color purity is realized providing the range of the color displayed by the light source without being restricted by the performance of the color filter. |
