PURPOSE:To improve the operability for the designation of the deletion of data by deleting only a character and its following space. CONSTITUTION:When a deletion key 1a is operated, the data are read out of a memory 7 designated by a cursor pointer CP. Then it is checked whether said data is equal to a space or not. If the data is not equal to a space, the data following the CP are justified to the left by an amount equal to a single character. Then the presence or absence of a deletion code is checked for the next code stored in an input buffer 2a. If a deletion code is detected, the data are read out of the memory 7 and it is checked whether this data is equal to a space or not. If the data other than a space are detected, the similar processing is repeated. While the space deleting actions are repeated until a character is detected in case a space is detected. When a character is detected, the clear signal is delivered to an FF circuit 4 to complete the processing.
