[Also in Division B1] A fuel cell catalyst comprising 40-95% Rh, 5-20% amorphous tungsten oxide (in which the valency of tungsten is less than 6) 0-47À5% Pt and 0-10% MoO 3 is made by coprecipitating a mixture of an alkali metal borohydride, a rhodium salt and a metatungstate and optionally H 2 PtC1 6 and a molybdate in an aqueous medium. The catalyst may be contained with a binder-waterproofing agent and a mineral oil to form a paste and spread on to a support, e.g. stainless steel, Ta, or acrylic fibres. P.T.F.E. is a specified binderwaterproofing agent. Reference is made in examples to the use of novel anodes opposite conventional cathodes in a fuel cell operated with 1.0% Co and 99% H 2 + 100% O 2 at 70‹ C. using 5NH 2 SO, as electrolyte. |
