The spacer (30) is intended for locating two housing components (4,6) relative to one another to ensure correct functioning of control elements (24,25) therein, partic. an i.c engine fuel injection pump head (4) and housing (6). The head contains a reciprocating and rotating piston (1) with a fuel duct groove (21), stroke-dependently operating in conjunction with an annular duct (25) in the head, which is radially loated in the housing (6) and axially located w.r.t. it via respective faces (8,9) near a transverse parting plane (7). Head and housing are connected by screws (28) extending through this plane and through cut-outs in the interposed spacer which determines the correct relative axial position of the ducts. The spacer consists of two symmetrically shaped plate portions which are connected via an integral portion at an angle of 90 deg to their common plane and arranged outside the pump housing assembly.
