PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst carrier capable of producing a polymer having excellent stereoregularity and particle size characteristics, by mixing a liquid containing an Mg alkoxide with a solid composition derived from an oxide of a specific element and a specific Si compound and adding a precipitation agent to the mixture. CONSTITUTION:The objective carrier is produced by (1) contacting (A) oxides of one or more kinds of elements selected from group II-IV elements (e.g. MgO, SiO2, etc.) and/or compound inorganic oxides (e.g. SiO2-Al2O3) containing one or more kinds of the above oxides with (B) an Si compound of formula R3SiX (R is alkyl, phenyl or vinyl; X is group reactive with OH group) [e.g. (CH3)3SiCl], (2) mixing the resultant solid material with a liquid containing Mg alkoxide [e.g. Mg(OCH3)2] and (3) adding a precipitant (e.g. lower alcohol) to the mixture. EFFECT:The catalytic activity of supported metal can be improved. |
