PURPOSE:To detect the accurate position of accident occurrence precisely by detecting the accident point from the time difference between variation of an overhead earth-wire current at the accident occurrence point and the detection of a sound by each sound pressure sensor and the propagation speed of the sound. CONSTITUTION:Sound signals detected by respective sound pressure sensors 21, 24, and 27 and a current variation signal detected by an overhead earth-wire current detector 30 are converted by an unshown electrooptic converter into light signals, which are transmitted to a monitor station such as a power transmission station and a power station through the optical cable in the overhead earth-wire 1. The monitor station converts converts the light signal into an electric signal of sound and current variation by an unshown optoelectric converter. The time difference between the detection of variation of a current by the detector 30 at the accident occurrence point on the earth-wire 1 and the arrival of the sound at the sensors 21, 24, and 27 is calculated and the distance to the accident occurrence point is found from the time difference and the propagation speed of the sound, thereby detecting the accident occurrence point on the overhead earth-wire.
