Animal foodstuff Final or "blackstrap" molasses, "Steffens waste" or "Barytes waste" (II), i.e. molasses from which as much sugar as possible has been removed, are dild. to 30-60 deg. Brix, and treated with potassium penta-calcium sulphate, giving K2SO4.CaSO4.h2O. The resultant acid liquor is treated with CaO, Ca(OH)2, or CaCO3 to remove SO42-, filtered, and neutralised to ph 5-7 with base, pref. Ca and/or Mg oxide, hydroxide, or carbonate. The liquid is then concd. to 70-80 deg. Brix, and forms a suitable food additive, contng., protein, Ca and/or Mg. |
