A rolling bearing housing comprises a pair of spaced end parts 1, each having a recess 2 with an annular side wall and a flange 5 extending radially outwards from the recess, the flanges on the respective end parts being held spaced by fastening means such as bolts 7 or rivets, and a plurality of spacing elements 9 located by the fastening means to abut between the flanges at spaced locations around the recesses. The spacing elements 9 may also provide mounting facilities 11, 12. There may be a U-sectioned rubber sleeve 17 between a spacing element 9 and its associated fastening means 7. The outer surface of the outer race 3 may be protected from corrosion by a strip of tape. A Y-sectioned sealing ring 16 is secured to the inner race. In alternative embodiments, in which the bearing can be aligned before the bolts are tightened, (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), the inner surfaces of the recesses are part-spherical, and they co-operate with corresponding surfaces on either the outer race itself, or a divided ring in which the outer race is mounted. Two bearings may be spaced in the housing by means of a cylindrical insert (Figs. 4 and 7, not shown). |
