The present invention relates to a ligament staple comprising two anchoring legs 2 tapering to a point at 4 at one of their ends and connected by a central pressure branch 5 at their second end. According to the invention, the central pressure branch 5 is markedly wider than the anchoring legs 2 and preferably projects the same distance on either side of the anchoring legs 2. Furthermore, each of the anchoring legs 2 is attached to the central pressure branch 5 by a substantially triangular base 13. In this way it is possible to form, on the longitudinal edges of the pressure surface of the central branch 5, two staggered rows of spikes 11 which will be sufficiently separated from each other so as not to lacerate the fibres of the ligament. <IMAGE>
