In order to be able better identify taping paper (F) or residues thereof on veneered surfaces of a workpiece (19) and to be able, if necessary, to remove by abrasion automatically such taping paper (F) from veneered surfaces it is envisaged that the taping paper (F) or its adhesive layer is replaced by luminescent, preferably fluorescent substances, and that this taping paper (F) affixed to the veneered surfaces is irradiated by a suitable electromagnetic source, particularly an ultraviolet source.
