1306255 Collector plate-tube couplings SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 23 Feb 1970 [26 Feb 1969] 8654/70 Heading F2G In a motor vehicle cooling radiator, circulation pipes 2 are fixed to a collector plate by corrodable or erodable adhesive material 4, such as soft solder, epoxy resin, zinc based brazing metal, the material extending over the major portion of the collector plate thickness and having a very small surface area in contact with circulating liquid relative to the depth of the material in the joints the exposed material being shielded to lie in a non-circulating part of the radiator. In joints employing a collector plate 1 of stamped metal, a pipe 2 with a flanged end 2a is held by the adhesive material 4 in a boss 3 with the flange 2a covering virtually all of the surface of the material or a rubber washer 5 interposed between the flanges and the boss. In joints employing a collector plate of mouldable material, the adhesive material extends throughout the plate thickness, and is protected by flaring of the pipe end, a rubber or plastics washer or plate, or an 0-ring. Alternatively a layer of varnish, paint, synthetic resin is sprayed or brushed over the adhesive material for protection. The adhesive material is also used to attach the collector plate to a water box. |
