A medicinal antioxidant, where appropriate in a carrier material, is indicated according to the invention and exhibits a combination of selenomethionine with compounds of self-regenerating physiological redox systems. The antioxidant preferably comprises the following compounds: selenomethionine, DL- alpha -tocopherol acetate, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), beta -carotene (provitamin A), thiamine HCl (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), pyridoxine HCl (vitamin B6), nicotinamide, glutathione ( gamma -glutamylcysteinylglycine) and L-cysteine. The product acts on free radicals and is thus used for preventing and eliminating degenerative disorders.
