In the case of a process for producing magnetic heads with core halves of ferrite, with a soft-magnetic alloy of high permeability sputtered or vapour-deposited onto the ferrite, and with a useful gap surrounded by the soft-magnetic alloy of high permeability, it is proposed to grind into the ferrite block serving as the starting material grooves of which the width corresponds approximately to the gap length of the magnetic head and of which the depth is chosen such that it is adapted to the later gap height. These grooves are vapour-deposited or sputtered with the soft-magnetic alloy of high permeability in such a way that they are completely filled. With such a procedure, a detachment of the sputtered-on layer from the core support of ferrite is avoided.
