A gyroscope device for determining the north direction is described. This contains a gyroscope motor 32, 33 with an approximately horizontally aligned spin axis 21 which is mounted in an inside frame 20. This inside frame is supported rotatably around an approximately vertical axis 13 in an outer frame 4 and rebalanced to a zero point above a torque transmitter 30, 31. The north-driving torque is compensated for by means of the torque transmitter; the current required for this is a measure of the north direction with respect to the spin axis alignment. According to the invention, an adjusting device 5 is used for adjusting the spin axis 21 in a number of directions of measurement, which adjusting device moves the gyroscope into preferably four positions and there fixes them in each case. The rate of adjustment is very high with this device. To rotate the gyroscope from one measuring position to another one, only a short-time current pulse is needed. <IMAGE>
