NEW MATERIAL:A 4(or 5)-acyl-1,1(or 3,3)-dimethyl-2,3,6,7,8,9(or 1,2,6,7,8,9)- hexahydro-1H-cyclopenta[a]naphthalene expressed by formula I (R1 is methyl or ethyl; either one of R2 and R3 is methyl and the other is H). EXAMPLE:5-Acetyl-3, 3-dimethyl-1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9-hexahydro-1H-cyclopenta[a]naphthalene. nta[a]naphthalene expressed by formula I (R1 is methyl or ethyl; either one of R2 and R3 is methyl and the other is H). USE:A highly safe perfume, having both improved quality and intensity of odor of musky aroma and producible at a low cost. PREPARATION:Tetralin and isoprene are subjected to cycloaddition to give a mixture of compounds expressed by formulas II-IV, which is then acylated to afford a mixture of compounds expressed by formulas X-IX. The resultant mixture is then subjected to chromatography using a mixed solvent of ethyl acetate and n-hexane at 1:20 ratio as a developer to remove the compound expressed by formula V and afford the aimed compounds expressed by formulas VI-IX. |
