PURPOSE:In producing a saturated monocyclic hydrocarbon or an unsaturated monocyclic hydrocarbon from a mixture consisting of at least two of the saturated monocyclic hydrocarbon, the unsaturated monocyclic hydrocarbon and an aromatic monocyclic hydrocarbon by extractive distillation, to use dipropylene glycol as an extraction solvent. CONSTITUTION:In separating a saturated monocyclic hydrocarbon or an unsaturated monocyclic hydrocarbon from a mixture of the saturated monocyclic hydrocarbon, the unsaturated monocyclic hydrocarbon and an aromatic monocyclic hydrocarbon by extractive distillation, dipropylene glycol in an amount to give a molar ratio of it to the mixture of the monocyclic hydrocarbons separated of 1-5 is used as an extraction solvent. Dipropylene glycol alone provides sufficient effects and it may be used as a blend of it with a polar solvent such as adiponitrile, sulfolane, N-methylpyrolidone, gamma- butyrolactone, etc. EFFECT:Dipropylene glycol is a solvent having improved selectivity and solubility. USE:An intermediate for a raw material for industrial chemicals.
