HEAT ACTIVATED DISPENSER FOR VAPORIZABLE MATERIALS AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE

An improved heat activated dispenser (10) for releasing a vaporizable material into the ambient atmosphere. The heat activated dispenser (10) comprises a material (12) which imparts excellent thermal insulating properties which control the rate of vaporization and provides a long useful life of the dispenser. Due to the use of absorbent compactable materials (12), such as synthetic silicates, the dispenser (10) utilizes no binders and substrates. Rather, the dispenser (10) is an integral self-supporting structure. According to the novel method of manufacture there is provided a compaction apparatus for compacting the absorbent compactable material (12) such as synthetic silicate, into the integral self-supporting structure of the heat activated dispenser (10). A volume of the absorbent compactable material (12) is impregnated with the desired vaporizable material and added to the compaction apparatus, additional volumes of dry absorbent compactable material (12) may be added from dispenser (10).
