On a cartridge feed device by means of which cartridges are fed from the right and left to an automatic firearm, a double loading protection device is intended to prevent a further cartridge (12) being fed when one cartridge (12) is removed from the firing chamber (84) of the weapon barrel (67), the risk existing that the subsequent cartridge (12) may jam the preceding cartridge (12) located in the firing chamber (84). This double loading protection device contains: a) one coupling (16, 17) for each conveyor device (10, 11) which feeds the cartridges (12) from the right or from the left, which coupling (16, 17) is provided to switch the conveyor device (10, 11) on and off, which are connected to one another via a pivoting lever (18) in such a manner that one coupling (17 or 16 respectively) is switched off while the other coupling (16, 17 respectively) is switched on, and both couplings (16, 17) are switched off when the pivoting lever (18) is in the neutral position; b) a guide rail (46) for guiding the cartridge (12), which is attached to a pivoting lever and is pivoted out while the cartridges are being fed from the right or left to the weapon and which is blocked when the couplings (16, 17) are switched off, in such a manner that it is not possible to feed a cartridge either from the right or from the left; c) a device (21) on each conveyor star (10, 11) for blocking the decoupled conveyor star (10, 11) which blocks the other conveyor star (11, 10) by means of the pivoting lever (18) while the one conveyor star (10, 11) is coupled in; ...
