The invention relates to a drive for lateral stops of sheet-processing machines, in particular printing machines. The aim of the invention is to provide a mechanical drive for lateral stops, which allows precise stack formation, even in the case of stiff printing carriers with large trimming differences and, with little technical expenditure, ensures maintenance-free and interference-free functioning even at a high operating speed and with a large amount of soiling in the sheet delivery. The object of the invention is to provide a drive for lateral stops, in which, starting from a uniform movement via a forced gearing, a rest phase is achieved on the output drive member to fix the sheets in the hovering phase and high aligning forces are achieved in this phase with a low drive moment, in which case a defined maximum force shall not be exceeded. The object is achieved in that two four-bar linkages arranged one after the other and connected to one another constitute the drive, in that, in an operating position, a connecting rod is assigned to a crank and a connecting rod is assigned to an arm of an angle lever in or approximately in an extended position (Figure 2). <IMAGE>
