A holding device for a telephone receiver, in particular a telephone handset, which comprises at least a microphone capsule, an earpiece and a hand-held part which connects them, contains a bracket for the earpiece and/or the microphone capsule on which to lay the telephone receiver and a locking device which locks together the laid down telephone receiver and the bracket using spring pressure and which can be overcome to lay down the telephone receiver and can be released by means of a release button to lift it. The release button is fitted on the side of the hand-held part of the telephone receiver which faces towards the earpiece, in particular on the underside of the hand-held part. It is also appropriate to dispose two release buttons on the side surfaces of the hand-held part. This ensures that a user can release and pick up the telephone receiver without looking at it. This is particularly important if the described telephone receiver holding device is used in vehicles.
