PURPOSE:To enhance ink receptivity, clearness of recorded images and surface gloss and prevent surface tackiness, blocking or the like from being generated, by incorporating a polymer complex of a basic polymer and a styrene/(meth) acrylic acid copolymer in an ink-receiving layer of an ink jet recording material. CONSTITUTION:Materials useful as a basic polymer, are, for example, homopolymers and copolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone, N-vinylcaprolactam or N-vinylmorpholine. A styrene/(meth)acrylic acid copolymer for forming a polymer complex with the basic polymer is a copolymer of styrene or a derivative thereof with acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, the molar ratio of styrene to (meth)acrylic acid being preferably in the range of 1/2-2/1. When the molecular weights of the basic polymer and the styrene/(meth)acrylic acid copolymer are not less than 1,000 an excellent ink-receiving layer is obtained. The weight ratio of the basic polymer to the copolymer is in the range of 10/1-10/3. If required, a resin such as an SBR latex or a filler such as clay may be dispersed in the ink-receiving layer. |
