PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized and efficient optical coupled whose number of degrees of freedom in design is large, by providing one or more grating structures on a part of a channel optical waveguide formed in a part of a slab waveguide structure. CONSTITUTION:Gratings 12a-12c on an input channel waveguide 6 are different in period and/or angle of inclination. Consequently, only the light having a specific wavelength of an input channel guided light 20 led from an optical fiber 10 is converted to slab guided light beams 22a-22c by Bragg diffraction. Optical waves subjected of a slab waveguide 4, which has the confirement action only in the one-dimensional direction, and are subjected to Bragg diffraction by gratings 14a-14c in output-size channel waveguides 8a-8c to become a channel guided light, and it is made incident on photodetectors 16a-16c in the condensed state and is detected. |
