PURPOSE:To improve the covering power of silver by incorporating a specified compound or a salt thereof into a nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer. CONSTITUTION:A compound represented by formula I (where each of Q1 and Q2 is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to form an imidazoline ring and R is alkylene) or a salt thereof is incorporated into a nonphotosensitive hydrophilic colloidal layer adjacent to a silver halide emulsion layer. A compound represented by formula II (where R is alkylene) is preferably used and the compound represented by the formula I. The colloidal layer may be a baryta layer, an underlayer or a protective layer. When the compound represented by the formula I is incorporated, the covering power of silver can be improved and sensitivity, maximum density and gamma are hardly lowered. |
