PURPOSE:To obtain a zip code automatic reading and classifying device which is easy to sel the screen display and easy to input and operate by providing with three kinds of the input means in the reading mode, number of digits and printing type directions and one confirming means. CONSTITUTION:When the postal matter, in which the zip code of the type printing is drawn, is set and an electric power source switch 3 is turned on, on comment columns 5a and 5b of a displaying screen 5, a mixing reading mode and the picture of upper three digits are displayed. Here, first, when the reading mode is selected and operated, the mode of the zip code is different from the displaying comment, and therefore, a reading mode switch 6 is pushed and the handwritten reading mode picture of the next candidate is flickered and displayed at a column 5a. Since this is not also applicable, the switch 6 is pushed, and the final printing type reading mode comment is flickered and displayed. A confirming switch 9 is pushed, and the mode information is stored into the memory part as the designating input information. Hereinafter in the same way, a number-of-digit switch 7 and a printing direction switch 8 are operated in the circulating system, and the number-of-digit information and the printing direction information are stored into the memory part. In such a condition, when a starting switch 11 is operated, a reading and classifying works are automatically executed.
