The fan has a set of radial blades (3) mounted around a hub (5) and capable of rotating about an axis (X1-X2) so as to move a fluid such as air along a direction more or less parallel to the said axis. Each blade (3) has a leading edge (8) in the direction of motion of the fluid, and a trailing edge (9). The means for reducing the fan noise consist of a discontinuity (4) cut into the back surface (i.e. the suction face) (10) of each blade (3) so as to extend over at least a part of the span of the blade. The discontinuity has a dimension in the transverse direction with respect to the back surface of the blade (3) which is at most equal to the thickness of the boundary layer in the fluid flow along the back surface (10) of the blade (3).
