PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight and thinned liq. crystal display element having plastic substrates by carrying out sealing with a sealant contg. specified polyester resin, epoxy resin and isocyanate as effective components. CONSTITUTION:Plastic substrates are sealed with a sealant contg. polyester resin having urethane bonds and terminal hydroxyl groups in the molecule, epoxy resin having hydroxyl groups whose average number per one molecule is >=0.3, and an isocyanate compound as effective components. The polyester resin is prepd. by reacting crystalline satd. polyester having 1.255-1.350 density with an isocyanate compound. The sealant can be cured at a low temp. at which plastic films used as the substrates are not thermally deformed, and the cured product of the sealant is insoluble in water and a liq. crystal. The sealant is dissolved in a specified solvent before curing. Satisfactory sealing strength can be maintained without treating the plastic substrates with NaOH. Thus, a lightweight and thinned liq. crystal display element having plastic substrates is obtd. |
