PURPOSE:To perform optimum valve actions conformable to an engine driving state, by installing three pieces of suction-exhaust valve driving cams connectedly on a camshaft, setting two pieces among them down to those for low speed use and the rest to high speed use, respectively, while controlling a connecting device at an adjacent part of rocker arms installed in conformity with each cam. CONSTITUTION:Two suction valves 1a and 1b are opened or closed by rocker arms 7, 8 and 9 being operated by cams 3, 4 and 5 set up in the upper part. Two cams 3 and 4 are set down to those for low speed use and the cam 5 to high speed use, respectively. A connecting piston 23 is installed in the central rocker arm 7 and an adjacent part of rocker arms 8 and 9 at both sides. When pressure oil is fed to a chamber 29, the piston 23 is pressed against a spring 25, coupling both together. At the time of connection, the valve is operated by the cam to be opened at a wide zone. When using these cams 3 and 4, both valves are operated by these cams for low speed use, and when the cam 3 or 4 and the cam 5 are used, they are operated by both low- and high-speed cams.
