PURPOSE:To carry out the optimum control of ignition timing even at a transient time by operating ignition timing in accordance with a variable that represents an operating condition measured at the time of a suction stroke and carrying out ignition with the operated cycle. CONSTITUTION:An operating condition detecting means 1 detects, e.g., the quantity of intake air and engine speed which are values representing the operating condition of an engine, with an intake air quantity detecting means 2 and an engine speed detecting means 3. And, when a suction stroke judging means 5 judges a suction stroke based on a crank angle signal from a crank angle detecting means 4, an ignition timing control means 6 operates ignition timing based on the quantity of intake air and engine speed at that time, and carries out the ignition immediately after the suction stroke with the operated ignition timing, via an ignition means 7.
