PURPOSE:To reduce a vertical color spurious signal by providing two horizontal shift registers and including a pulse generating circuit for generating successively pulses repeating ON and OFF from a terminal connected to the electrode of a vertical shift register near to the horizontal shift registers. CONSTITUTION:A signal charge is read to a corresponding 1/2 step CCD vertical register from respective photodiodes P11-P72 during a vertical blanking period, the pulse phi1 supplied from the shift pulse generating circuit 10 is turned off during a horizontal blanking period and a signal charge immediately below the electrode phi1 is transferred to the first horizontal shift register 103 through a final electrode 105. Then, the pulse phi2 is turned on and the pulse phi3 is turned off, and then, the signal charge just below the electrode phi3 is moved just below the electrodes phi2, phi1. At this time, the signal charge transferred to the first horizontal register 103 is fed to the second horizontal register 104 through a separating electrode 106. Thereby, the vertical color spurious signal can be reduced.
