PURPOSE:To dispense with any support of a bearing's outer ring of a rack-and- pinion type power steering and thereby make a housing compact in size, by securing an inner ring of a bearing tight to a pinion gear, while checking any thrust movement in the outer ring with the housing. CONSTITUTION:An outer ring of a second ball bearing 20 in which an inner ring is secured tight to a pinion gear 18 is checked in its movement in a longitudinal direction by a step differential in a long hole 23 and a spool housing 26, while thrust load in the pinion gear 18 is received by the second ball bearing 20. For this reason, an outer ring of a first ball bearing 19 in which an inner ring is secured tight to the pinion gear 18 is no longer required to be checked in its movement in the longitudinal direction whereby an outer diameter of a support member 44 is able to make it smaller than that of the first ball bearing 10. Therefore, a housing 27 can be made into compactification. |
