PURPOSE:To obtain an optical attenuator having high precision relatively easily by forming a ND filter provided between abutted end face of a pair of ferrule of polyester film deposited with evaporated metal film. CONSTITUTION:A ND filter 4 is interposed between abutted end faces 2a, 3a of ferrules 2, 3. The ND filter is constructed of polyester film 5 having deposited evaporated metal film 6 on one side of the polyester film, and both faces of the ND filter 4 are bonded to the butted end faces 2a, 3a interposing an adhesive material 7, 8 and fixed. Thus, only such ND filters having previously guaranteed specified attenuation are arranged and fixed to the abutted end faces of a ferrule. By this method, an optical attenuator having extremely higher precision than those made by the conventional process can be obtd. easily. |
