PURPOSE:To hold stably and connect optical fibers to each other with high precision by using a triangular and cylindrical array sleeve which has a slit axially at its one corner edge and fixing and holding a ferrule which is inscribed with respective flat side edges of the array sleeve with compressive force centered on other corner edge facing the slit. CONSTITUTION:The array sleeve 7 is rectangular and cylindrical and has the slit 8 axially at one corner edge to its overall length. When the ferrule 6 is inserted into the array sleeve 7, the array sleeve 7 is spread having a vertex at the corner edge 9 between long sides 7c and 7d by its own elasticity and the ferrule 6 is clamped with spring force R as its reaction force. In this case, the array sleeve 7 is expanded and contracted sufficiently because there is the slit 8 formed between short sides 7a and 7b, so the ferrule 6 need not be manufactured with high precision. Further, the array sleeve 7 holds each ferrule 6 fixedly in a four-side compressed state, so its holding force is storing and the ferrule 6 is prevented from shifting in position and falling owing to a change in external environment and tensile force. |
