PURPOSE:To reduce the number of skids and improve the heating efficiency of a conveyed object by providing a shift skid which is movable in the width direction below the conveyed object between parallel mobile skids. CONSTITUTION:In a walking beam type conveying device 1, a steel piece which is a conveyed object 3 is supported by upper faces 4a of both mobile skids 4A, 4B on a line Y. The moving lucus of the upper faces 4a is lowered from the point A of the line Y to a line Z, retreated and further lifted to the line Y as a basic behavior. During this operation, individual mobile skids 4 can be independently operated, on the other hand, when the locus is advanced from the point B to the point A, both mobilke skids 4A, 4B are arranged to be advanced simultaneously to convey the conveyed object 3. After the steel piece is mounted on the mobile skids 4, the mobile skids 4 are advanced in unison via posts 6 by the drive of driving devices 7, then the steel piece is advanced together with multiple steel pieces 3 in a heating furnace 2 and inserted into the heating furnace 2.
