PURPOSE:To enhance the quality of two-tone painting appearance, by a method wherein top coat having a first color is applied to form a painting surface and, after this painting surface is masked, second intermediate coat is applied to the non-coating surface of other side and, further, top coat having a second color is applied. CONSTITUTION:At first, after bottom coat and second intermediate coat are applied to the whole of a surface to be painted, tip coat 1 having a first color is applied to one side of a parting line L provided to an article W to be painted so as to slightly exceed the parting line L. Next, the first paint color surface is masked as shown by a numeral 3 through the parting line L and second intermediate coat 4 is applied to the other side of the parting line L. Further, top coat 2 different from paint 2 having a first paint color in hue is applied to finish a second paint color. As a result, the adverse effect on the second paint color due to the over spray mist of the first paint color is avoided to enhance appearance quality.
