PURPOSE:To make a hydrophobic semipermeable membrane hydrophilic within an extremely short period of time without using any chemicals and without damaging the membrane, by applying a water pressure 70% higher than the permeation pressure of a semipermeable membrane to the inner and outer surface of a hydrophobic semipermeable membrane having a dry part. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophobic semipermeable membrane made of a material having a contact angle with water of more than 60 deg. is used, where a pore diameter of over 0.01mum is preferably. A water pressure 70% higher than a pressure, at which, when a pressure is applied on one side of a dry membrane, water begins to come out to the opposite side of said membrane within a minute, is applied to both sides of said semipermeable membrane. Though same pressure can be applied to both side of the semipermeable membrane, pressure difference of more than 0.1kg/cm<2> between both sides is preferable. This makes it possible to make a dry membrane hydrophilic in a very short time without the use of a chemical such as alcohol without damaging the membrane.
