PURPOSE:To easily form a desired refractive index distribution by doping various kins of metal in a thin film of chalcogenite glass formed on a transparent substrate or lens. CONSTITUTION:The thin film of chalcogenite glass is formed on a plano-convex lens 1'' and a metallic thin film 3 is further formed thereupon; and a position where a refractive index needs to be increased is irradiated with an electron beam 4 and excessive metal is etched. The metal penetrates the thin film of chalogenite glass deeper as the acceleration voltage of the electron beam is higher and higher, and the metal is doped in the chalogenite glass more and more as the amount of irradiation charge s larger and larger, so that the refractive index increases. Therefore, the beam diameter, acceleration voltage, irradiation charge amount, and irradiation position of the electron beam are optimized to form the desired refractive index distribution.
